Getting Pregnant

If you are thinking about having a baby, are having trouble getting pregnant, or staying pregnant, are seeking medical assistance to get pregnant (IUI or IVF), acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine contribute to creating the best conditions physically and emotionally to conceive and carry a healthy baby to term.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine help in the following ways

  • Remove blockages in the meridians associated with reproduction

  • Improve blood flow to the uterus and ovaries allowing them to work to their full potential

  • Improve blood flow to the endometrial lining helping to grow in thickness

  • Promote primary follicle and trigger ovulation

  • Regulate menstruation

  • Help women with PCOS, endometriosis, dysmenorrhea or pelvic inflammation

  • Reduce stress by decreasing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system

Research studies into the effectiveness of acupuncture to help conceive have been very promising but nothing has been proven to western medical standard. However, men and women who have had acupuncture and have taken herbal formulas report they have greatly benefitted from treatments. They've felt proactive, supported relaxed and nurtured through what can be an extremely stressful process. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine work well as a compliment to conventional methods and contrivbute to giving yourself the best chances of success.

During Pregnancy

Acupuncture helps alleviate many common complaints during pregnancy such as

  • Nausea and vomitting

  • Heartburn

  • Constipation

  • Hemorrhoids

  • Urinary Tract Infections

  • Fatigue

  • Anemia

  • Insomnia

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Sinuitis

  • Musculoskeletal pain

Turning Breech Babies

Studies looking at the optimum time for turning a breech baby with acupuncture have found intervention is the most effective at week 34, before the baby is too large. However, it may be effective as late as 38/39 weeks. It is a needless treatment, we use moxa. I show you how to administer the treatment and then send a stick of moxa home with you so you can do it yourself. A course of treatment to turn a baby is a 10 day process.

Pre-Labor Treatments

Pre-labour treatments promote a safe and effective natural labour. Starting at week 36, it helps prepare a women's body for birth with an emphasis on preparing the cervix, pelvis, tendons and ligaments for labour. It eases the mind reducing stress and anxiety. Acupressure techniques to reduce labour pain are taught to the partner.

Induction treatments

If you have met or passed the due date of your baby, acupuncture treatment can get the process going naturally.

Postnatal Treatments

Acupucnture during the six weeks following birth can help with delayed or insufficient lactation, rebalancing hormones, rebuilding energy and post natal feelings of depression.

Testimonials

Pregnancy after miscarriage

"I went to see Jill after my second miscarriage. Herbs combined with specialised acupuncture treatments help restore my body and create a fertile ground to develop a baby. After 7 months I became pregnant."

JO, Penryn

Pregnancy

"I heard that acupuncture was good for anxiety. My anxiety was getting worse. I wasn't getting pregnant, working full time and mum to 2 year old. My stress levels were getting higher and higher. The treatments helped me sleep better and not to feel so overwhelmed or disappointed when my period arrived every month. I think this helped me to fall pregnant within a couple of months from starting treatments."

KH, Bissoe

Breech

"I've got the baby to move out of breech position and I've not done much yoga this week so I reckon it's down to the moxibustion. Thanks so much!"

BR, Falmouth  35 weeks
